Game dev of "The Backrooms 1998" game here - just wanted to say how thrilled I am to see this! That game I made which was based around the backrooms really helped launch my career, and it’s incredible to watch the whole concept evolve into a film. The trailer looks amazing, and I can’t wait to see it!

I love that they use the start of that one song that's used in a lot of "liminal space" aesthetic tiktoks, but they never let the actual song play. It's a reminder that this place isn't an aesthetic. It's not just some series of eerie yet nostalgic rooms that you find oddly comforting. It's something else with something else (possibly) lurking inside.

When I was 15 I volunteered cooking food at a church 2x a week, and while I was waiting I'd go into the basement. It's an extremely long thin hallway with a piano built into one wall and you have to flip switches as you go to turn on random lights. On one side of the wall there are rooms made for kids to play in, you have to crouch and crawl in and they were very cramped inside. They are all connected by small square holes that you can crawl through so you can enter at one doorway and crawl your way to the end of the hallway and come out of the opposite door. I played piano down there to mess with everyone, even this old church lady said I was the only person to go down there in years. If I was talented I'd film a short film there. No talking, just a tour with someone playing that detuned piano in g major or something. I don't think I'd have the heart to walk through it anymore, one of the 5 scariest places I've been for sure
