It's been a eventful morning at WRC FORUM8 Rally Japan 2022, round 13 and the final round of the FIA World Rally Championship 2022. 19 challenging rally stages on asphalt roads in Aichi and Gifu, two prefectures 300km to the west of Tokyo, close to Nagoya city. The service park and Rally HQ is based at Toyota Stadium. November 10 - 13 2022.

This burning Hyunday evokes pictures of Henry Toivonen's crash in Corsica 1986. Safety procedures for local or bigger rally events shoul be: at least one fully equipped fire truck plus one ambulance at the start and at the end of all stages. Plus one in between, if the stages are longer than 10km. The fire trucks arriving one hour after the incident started is unacceptable for a small local rally, but totally unacceptable for an event at WRC-level. Imagine the car had had a crash and driver or codriver had been trapped in the car. Drivers should refuse continuing this rally unless a minimum of safety standards are provided by the organisers.

Lots of questions to the organizers on why fire fighters took that long to respond. I'm understood there were first responders on stage attempting to put the fire out, but no real fire fighters until 1 hour has passed already.
