The 2021 US Open main draw runs from August 30 - September 12 in New York City at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The tournament takes place for the 141st time and is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year. Dominic Thiem is the men’s singles defending champion but has withdrawn following an injury. Naomi Osaka is the women’s singles defending champion and will be aiming to claim the title for the third time in four years. Meanwhile, No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic looks to complete the calendar Grand Slam after winning the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon already this year. Should the Serbian lift the title here for the fifth time, he will also overtake Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to become the first-ever man to win 21 Grand Slam singles titles. With full capacity crowds back again, it’s time for the greatest return!

Made it through an up-and-down five-setter has Nishikori; congrats to making it through to the third round. He will face Djokovic for the 20th time in a Tokyo Olympics rematch. The head-to-head is 17-2 in Djokovic's favour! Props to Mackie too for competing well against a healthy, in-form Nishikori. Hoping to see more results from the rising American.

Nice one Kei! He had never lost from 2 sets up and I was scared he would today, but he managed to save it. Problem for Kei is he always ends up playing longer than he probably should. He could have won this match in straight sets in under 2 hours but instead went to 5 and took nearly 4 hours. For him to go deep in a major, he needs to get through the first 2 or 3 rounds easily, preferably in straight sets. That said, he's got Novak next so he has no chance to go past the 3rd round anyway.

Bad decision from McDonald, you've got to be aggressive and claim those first sets in a match vs Nishikori, his resilience is almost proverbial he is the best active player in five-setters... Well played anyway

Two of the most modest and sincere players. Nishikori dug deep to win as McDonald wasn’t giving up. Side note: Nishikori’s expressions right from the first game seems like he is always losing 😄

If he keeps going through with these 5-set wins, he’s either gonna get burnt out and lose or literally drop out and give the opponent a free pass to the next round.

This was a hard match to watch if you're rooting for Mackie. He missed so many chances to close it out, hit too many ineffective drop shots, and his net game needs a lot of work. I hope he can learn from this and come back stronger.

two of my favorite players on tour. this is the worst possible outcome imo. a grueling 5 set win by nishikori. tough to imagine that he won't feel the effects of this match when he faces djokovic. don't get me wrong, no outcome would see either other looking like the favorite against djokovic...but this is probably the outcome with the absolute lowest possibility of challenging djokovic.

Nice run for Kei but judging by his last three matches against Djokovic - and after this 5 setter - the third round will be a bloodbath and/or a retire. It's a terrible match-up to begin with as Djokovic is simply (respectfully) a superior version of Kei. Over/under for total games won should be 5.5 and I'm taking the under.
