The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS Awareness took place on Easter Monday, 20th April 1992 at Wembley Stadium in front of a 72,000 sold-out crowd and global broadcast audience of over one billion. The concert was a tribute to Queen's lead vocalist, Freddie Mercury, who died of AIDS on 24 November 1991. Queen’s remaining members Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon were joined on stage by many of the biggest acts in the world including David Bowie, George Michael, Annie Lennox, Elton John, Guns N’Roses, Robert Plant, Metallica, Liza Minelli, Def Leppard, Seal, Roger Daltry and many more. The concert was to be the last large scale live event John Deacon performed with Queen.

The profits from the concert were used to launch The Mercury Phoenix Trust. The trust is a core part of Queen and Freddie’s legacy and has gone on to provide in excess of £17m to over 1000 projects in 57 countries in the ongoing fight against AIDS worldwide.

the fact that millions of people across the world still love and care about this man so much even after nearly 29 years since his death just shows how amazing he was

It's amazing to see so many legendary artists celebrating one single person. And seeing them working together so beautifully just to honor the special occasion and Freddie himself. Slash and Brian jamming, James nailing stone cold crazy, Seal giving his all, Axl being on time for his stage entrance, Elton shouting the show must go on, all those magnificent ladies like Liza singing so devoted and powerful... I am so thankful to be able to watch that performance in good quality and full length. It always gives me joy (next to crippling depression because I miss Freddie so much, even though I was born after his death). Seeing Axl looking at the sky while they all sing we are the champions gives me goosebumps every time. They all just did something truly wholesome and good that day ♥️
5: Lester Ng 2020/05/17 0:19
Who could possibly give this a thumbs down? I miss Freddie (and Bowie) so much
6: Francis Wilson 2020/05/14 10:20
Isn't this something? All of these great performers coming out to celebrate the life of the one and only Freddie Mercury. What an honor. He truly loved life and he lived it to the fullest, and I think this is the way he would have wanted to be remembered, through his music. What a legend.

9: Squidly Squish 2020/05/17 8:17
what if Freddie ran onto the stage and shoved axl rose out of the way and took over the solo...I mean-we can only dream right?

This isn’t even the whole concert. Before the full queen portion there was about 3 hours of performances including Def Leppard, Guns n Roses and Metallica when they were in their top forms. It also aired live on MTV in America so I’m sure that the people who were there or saw it on TV(like myself) are happy to get a chance to relive it and it’s a chance for the fans who weren’t alive yet to experience it, This was also while Bohemian Rhapsody was back in the Billboard charts thanks to its inclusion in Wayne’s World. It peaked a month later at number 2. Apparently the Blu-ray includes the entire concert.

I listen to the concert, I listen to these artists, but I still hear the voice of Freddy.
For 40 years, Freddy has been in my heart. His voice penetrates all the cells of the body, into the soul, into the mind.

17: Youtachi Yamashita 2020/05/17 9:54
The fact that this made it on trending makes me happy. It shows how many people truly enjoy Queen's art still today and appreciate Freddie's time on earth. I was not born when this happened, yet Queen's art never ceases to make me happy.
18: Abu Sayed Mohammed Sayam 2020/05/17 0:50

Not gonna lie, I'm kinda sad that they didn't posted the whole concert, the Extreme performance was probably the highlight of the show, Guns N' Roses, Metallica and Def Leppard also performed really well and they also cut Bowie's Heroes which is one of my favorite versions.
21: Sebastian Davila 2020/05/14 5:39
My first time in a Queen's concert, IT DOESN'T MATTER "if it is in youtube" TO ME

La canción de toda la historia que más se queda en la memoria, según la ciencia es... WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS. Grande El Rey. Grande Freddie Mercury.

I’m gonna be laughing and crying damn man I’m ready
32: Brittany Phillips 2020/05/17 3:23
You could see that Elton was trying to keep it together. He and Freddie were good friends and it was probably hearrbreaking for him. But seeing that crowd and how they just radiated pure energy gave me chills. It was amazing.
33: Ben Williams 2020/05/17 0:53
I'm a metalhead but Queen maybe the best band ever to take the stage. I don't listen to them much if truth be told, but the whole thing of Queen is just on a level of its own. The performers, the massive anthems, the shows and incredible videos. They are exceptionally intelligent and interesting individuals as well. I think I like learning about the story of Queen maybe more than listening to them, but this show, the Live Aid and some of the other Wembley performances are really very special to watch. What an incredible band on every level imaginable. I think Freddie was/is the best frontman that music has ever seen. PS. As I said at the beginning I listen to metal (death/hardcore/black/tech/djent/speed etc.) and I still see these and Freddie as being the best ever. Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury, Corey Taylor and Kurt Cobain are top 4, but of that list, Freddie is number 1 on stage!!!
34: Lu Mayva 2020/05/16 22:21
Bryan's smile says it all.

I cried the entire show, the energy and the kindness in all of the people who where present... Woaw. Freddie is a legend forever and will touch many more people in the futur. We love you, you and the band wrote so many magnificent songs... (sorry for my english it's not my language)
