When you sing, your whole body is your instrument. Everything — your breath, posture, and muscles — needs to stay open, relaxed, and stable so air can flow smoothly through your vocal cords. When you dance, your body does the exact opposite — it gets tight, bouncy, and constantly shifts balance. That’s where the conflict starts.
Breath vs. Movement
When you sing, you’re trained to control airflow — slow, steady, and supported from your diaphragm. When you dance, your breathing becomes chaotic: you’re moving, your heart rate rises, and your lungs want to gasp for air.
So now your body is saying "I want..." : Quantity -“I need more air!” (for dancing)
and your voice is saying: Precision -“I need controlled air!” (for singing)
You can’t fully satisfy both at once — that’s why people often sound breathy, shaky, or flat when dancing. SACRIFICE and COMPROMISE are needed, no matter how good you are.
Tension vs. Relaxation
Good singing needs your neck, shoulders, and jaw to stay loose. But dancing uses those same muscles for power and control — your shoulders tense, your abs tighten, your jaw braces to keep balance.
So the body parts that singing needs to relax are the same ones dancing needs to activate.
That’s why it feels like your voice “locks up” when you dance — your body is literally fighting itself.
Posture and Alignment
Singing needs a steady, aligned posture — open chest, lifted sternum, even weight. But choreography constantly breaks that: twisting, bending, bouncing, turning your head away from the mic. Every small change in posture affects how your breath and resonance line up.
Even small motions, like a head turn or quick jump, can completely throw off airflow or cause a note to crack if your support isn’t instantly adjusted.
Focus and Timing

So How Does NMIXX Do It?

That's why the best word to describe NMIXX is vocal athletes. Is already hard enough to learn the singing and choreography by themselves, let alone sing it live in NMIXX's fashion. They build the performance into their bodies through sweat, pain and tears (i know this myself).
About Vibrato while performing energetic choreography
Vibrato happens when your voice is stable, relaxed, and supported — your muscles are balanced enough to let the pitch naturally oscillate. When you’re dancing, your body is under stress and your airflow gets uneven, so vibrato can disappear or sound shaky.
