Mexico took on Japan in the semifinals of the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Mexico's Luis Urias hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to give Mexico a 3-0 lead. Japan's Masataka Yoshida hit a three-run home run to tie the game 3-3 in the seventh inning. Mexico quickly responded with Alex Verdugo's RBI double and Isaac Paredes' RBI single, to put Mexico ahead 5-3 in the top of the eighth inning. Japan's Hotaka Yamakawa hit a sacrifice fly to bring Japan within one in the bottom of the eighth, 5-4. Finally, in the bottom of the ninth Munetaka Murakami hit a two-run double to give Japan a 6-5 walk-off win over Mexico. This instant WBC classic sent Japan to the championship against USA.

Japan is a different animal. They never fold, they never panic. They just play their game. That 1-9 are RELENTLESS and their pitching is otherworldly. Mexico did everything they could to contain these guys but they show up in clutch moments. Tonight was another example of why they're undefeated throughout this WBC tournament. USA has gotten hot at the right time, but the pitching will be the difference. Of all the games, this one sits up there with Trea's grand slam in the 8th. This matchup definitely lived up to the hype! Respect to both teams. This could've went either way, but the better team won. Tomorrow will be one for the books!!! 🇺🇲🔥🇯🇵

Genda's play faithful to the basics changed the flow of the defeat mood.
Also, the last pinch runner, Shuto's leg speed is too amazing!

Quiero felicitar a nuestro Equipo Mexicano, me siento orgulloso del desempeño realizado en este torneo, desde mi punto de vista son campeones, es difícil mantener una racha ganadora al hilo, vencieron a equipos grandes y no solo eso, lea dieron una paliza. As a Japanese, I want to thank 'Samurai Japan' for showing me the best match ever and am proud of 'Samurai Japan' . And the Mexican team was also great. I was so moved that I couldn't stop my tears from falling.

I am Japanese🇯🇵I thought Japan would lose. The Mexican team had a high level of batting and pitching, and I felt hopeless. The Japanese team won, but I think it was a very difficult match to win. Also, Mexico is a country that loves baseball, and I was moved by the news that small children in Mexico, who aspire to be baseball players in the future, are enjoying baseball every day and doing their best even when things are tough.
