春の海　宮城道雄作曲　（箏 / 渡邊香澄・尺八 / 白倉柳一）

箏と尺八の二重奏として代表的なこの曲は、宮城道雄が旅をした春ののどかな瀬戸内海・かもめの飛ぶ様子をイメージされて作られた曲です。
近年では新年といえばこの曲！と言われるほど有名ですね。
その理由としてはいくつか説があります。
当時宮中歌会始にちなんで作曲され、１月２日にラジオで流れたのが正式初演とのことからお正月の定番曲となったという事・また春というと４月頃を思い浮かべますが、お正月を「新春」と呼ぶように旧暦の春はちょうど２月頃。お正月を迎えるころは春の始まりだったという説もあります。

The Sea in Spring

This piece, a representative duet for koto and shakuhachi, was composed by Michio Miyagi, inspired by the tranquil springtime scenery of the Seto Inland Sea that he visited during his travels, and the image of seagulls flying over the water.
In recent years, it has become so well known that people often say, “When you think of the New Year, this is the piece!” There are several theories as to why.
One is that the piece was composed in connection with the Imperial New Year Poetry Reading (Utakai Hajime), and its official premiere was a radio broadcast on January 2, which led to it becoming a staple New Year’s piece. Another theory is related to the concept of spring: while we tend to think of spring as beginning around April today, the New Year is also called Shinshun (“New Spring”). In the old lunar calendar, spring began around February, meaning that the time of the New Year was considered the beginning of spring.

With prayers for everyone’s happiness and good fortune, we performed this piece.
