MV THEORY:
While I can’t read Japanese that’s presented in this MV, which I suppose may, or may not give out hints, I’ll just base this off of everything else.
There are two persons in this story: the outer one (man w/o a mask), and the inner one (man w/ a mask). The outer person seems to be searching for something, and just keeps on scrambling, losing hope with each passing day/hour. The inner person, meanwhile, feels empowered; he feels active and just relaxes as he continues to sway/dance/do something (which is why that part is shown at the chorus). At the bridge, we see the outer person entering the lake, as the inner one watches from a distance (there’s actually two instances of the inner person here; one depicted inside of something, and another from the lake). As the outer person, who seems to be attempting suicide, kills himself, the inner person feels empowered even more. However that comes to an end at the outro part of the song, where the outer person strives to get out of the lake, who seems to have been enlightened by his actions, telling himself that it was never a good idea to end his life. The inner person struggles against the outer one to pull him back into the lake, to no avail. He fails at the end, with the outer person going back into the roadside for a trip, as the inner person grasps his hand, wondering if the outer person would ever change his mind.
Getting to the point of this story, I guess they might’ve interpreted the “Broken Heart of Gold” as something that’s dark, frightening, imagined as an entity that resides within you. Where the outer and inner persons are one and the same; you just have to figure out which side you’re on. And in this case, the outer person chose not to commit death, because he realized, maybe after being helped by a person for his trip, that hope isn’t totally lost.
Overall, this music video depicts the struggles of life. For me this video is more like a contemporary criticism of the Japanese concepts of Honne and Tatemae. There is a kanji that keeps showing in this video and that is 忍 or endure / restraint. It speaks volumes how most Japanese youth nowadays are still restrained by their own culture making them to put on a mask (Tatemae) that is most probably NOT what they really are inside. The video shows however the effort to rise above and show what a person really wants. The video even shows them burning the kanji's and the mask, this scene wants the Japanese youth to just show who they really are and do what they really intend to do (Honne) with their life.
The video alludes also to Rurouni Kenshin because the anime is basically showing Kenshin choosing his true intention of supporting the new era albeit at the cost of his own happiness.
This is such a refreshing and strong video! Congrats to OOR and to Halftime films!

Desde que salió la canción no he parado de oírla, tiene tanto sentimiento que es casi imposible que las lágrimas no salgan y con este MV, la canción se volvió aún más hermosa.
Tengo varias ideas de lo que puede pasar en el vídeo, pero la que más me suena es que en algún momento llegamos a sentirnos como una muñeca (alusión a la máscara de porcelana que recuerda al teatro o a las muñecas antiguas niponas) guiados por la sociedad, los prejuicios, lo establecido, lo que es y no "puede" cambiar, literalmente somos títeres del mundo e incluso, del destino, de la tragedia que puede ser esta humanidad y en cada parte de la vida, actuamos de acuerdo a lo que nos dictan, cambiando de máscara cada que debemos, mas llegamos a un punto en el que, al mirar en perspectiva, nos vemos construido por fragmentos , por pequeñas piezas que quieren encajar a la fuerza sustituyendo a nuestro ser puro. Although it might look like in a bad direction, but for me its just a message to tell us that, "Sometimes if that goal is not working out even when you did 100% more effort or if it had costed your very sanity, it's okay to just say "I've failed, but I will be continue on another path".
