This... this is amazing. These are probably the most impressive use of special effects I've ever seen in a Tokusatsu TV series. The quality of the costumes and the detail of the sets, the seamless integration between costumed actors and real life city scenery, the camerawork on the fights to create the effect of size, the way you can feel the weight of things... just an amazing work of art. Thank you Tsuburaya for keeping practical effects alive in Tokusatsu. Thank you for keeping the soul of Tokusatsu alive.

Holy moly, Blazar's opening theme song goes extremely hard! Hiroshi Kitadani really went all out singing it, and I absolutely love it. Not only that, the opening visuals definitely remind me of Ultraman Z's opening. That's how you know Kiyotaka Taguchi really directed this series.
Also, I like how all the characters feel so natural of their reactions and interactions together. And I love every of Captain Gento's moments in this episode.

This is way more impressive than I thought it would be. The interaction between the casts is way more organic than most tokusatsu I've seen, it is also an interesting take to put the ultra host as a captain instead of the newbie / ace.

I generally liked this episode a lot. The opening theme absolutely hits, the character interactions are fun, & the fight scene is fast-paced and energetic. The following stuff will contain spoilers:
When they weren't able to find the fifth member of SKaRD, you think it's because of higher-up shenanigans. But then it's revealed he had already joined & that was the reason they couldn't find him. That was honestly a very good plot twist. There's also some Setup & Payoff in this episode. When Genta talks about Blazar at the start, we don't think much of it, until the supreme commander or whatever says that he wants Earth Garon to beat the monster before Blazar does. Another example is the old fisherman plot. We see the old fisherman use a buzzsaw on a harpoon. You might be able to tell he's sharpening the harpoon, but when he later on charges at the monster with his harpoon, it really surprised me.

It really brings me a lot of vibe as Ultraman Z. The casual jokes without being cringe, different approach of combat, great tension & good build up chemistry on every member. Hope the whole series ended up great and possibly winning seiun award just like Ultraman Z

The goofiness and seriousness blended really well together, not just the character interactions but also the fight scene. The fishing rod part looked really cool and having Getos grilled gives a unique comedic touch to it, and of course it suits Blazer's hunter aspect really well.

I cannot tell you how refreshing it is to watch a show like this. The show oozes charm and just puts you in a better mood after watching. I am loving this shin godzilla-esque satire of the military all rigid command structures and titles which is balanced by Gento's welcoming and friendly disposition. I wouldn't change a thing.

One more thing i like about Blazar is that the interactions between characters feels somewhat natural, the comedic bit isn't to forced and actually works and it made me actually chuckle a bit unlike some *other* seasons.

Its only 2nd episode and i alr love it to death. This is probably the first ultraman i've watched where he just straight up go for the finisher instead of fight until he almost ran out energy. Gotta love how all the jokes are made not to be forced with a funny soundtrack on it but its made relatable and funny as hell. Props to the action sequence director and the editors to make ultraman fishing a kaiju which also a fish

Some thoughts:
I _loved_ that sequence in the OP starting at 3:43 where the kaiju are shown in media sightings, it's such a cool idea. Also, I was hoping they would change the title card background colour every episode as a reference to Ultraman 1966's opening sequence, but I didn't expect them to actually do it
The subtle comedy touch to this episode was pretty great, it feels natural and works well within the plot. It almost reminds me of Mebius' second episode, where Mirai went around to recruit members for GUYS
Gedos is a cool kaiju in concept, but the execution is a little lacking IMO. I kinda wish he used his forehead tentacle a bit more, like if he used it to bring food to his mouth instead of bending down to eat. I kind of felt bad for him at the end too, if this was Z Haruki might've let him escape, but unfortunately Blazar is Blazar
I wasn't expecting Blazar to turn the Spiral Burrade into a fishing rod, but it makes a lot of sense to adapt your finisher to the situation, and really makes Blazar feel appropriately like a kaiju hunter. Wish more Ultras did that with their attacks; after all, if you can shape your beam attacks into a sword, you can probably shape it into something else as well

I know a lot of older fans have been clamoring for a more "serious" entry, and while the first episode certainly set us up for that, I think they made the right call, making the show tonally lighter. Blazar's unga bunga characterization seems like it'd have a tendency to lean towards the comical, and I personally think character should trump tone any day of the week. Works well in-universe too, this seems to be another Earth where _kaiju_ attacks are a regular occurrence, makes sense the characters come off somewhat used to it.

This series is really awesome, the way SKaRD team was created makes me remember STORAGE from Z. Also their mecha Earth Garon seems to work similar to Sevenger and the others. But Blazar is a more serious show than the others. I'm already waiting for what's coming next.

Definitely liking this show! I love how it still has a more mature tone without sacrificing any of the fun that fans want from Ultraman. Kind of like Orb could be silly one moment and heartwrenching the next. Makes sense considering the director.
I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm enjoying the dub a lot. All of the voice actors are really doing a great job, especially Johnny. Not that I expected anything less from a Western Tokusatsu veteran. I kind of hope they get more Power Rangers alumni to play future characters. Liiiiike Dan Southworth as a villain? Please?

Rewatching this episode, I just realized that the red and blue lines are placed on his body while he's rising. There are blue and red particles flying around before landing on Blazar; finishing his look with the stripes. That's amazing!
